CADILLACS AND INFINTE POWER

General Motors plans to offer wireless charging of smart phones in some 2015 model-year Cadillacs.

The automaker is integrating wireless-charging technology developed in partnership with Powermat, which GM’s venture capital arm financed several years ago.

The first vehicles to get the Powermat capability are the 2015 Cadillac ATS sedan and coupe. The automaker also will make the technology available toward the end of 2014 on the 2015 Cadillac CTS sedan and the 2015 Cadillac Escalade sport-utility vehicle.

The technology allows drivers or passengers to charge devices by placing them in a bin tucked behind the center-console panel, which swings upward at the touch of a button on Cadillacs.

Devices must be equipped with wireless charging capability to work when placed on Powermat’s rubberized pad, GM said. The system generates an electromagnetic field that charges batteries.

GM said “a majority” of wirelessly chargable devices would work with the system.

“Our lifestyles have evolved in a more mobile way than ever before and with that comes an even greater need for access to power in those places where we spend the majority of our time,” Powermat Chief Executive Ran Poliakine said in a statement. “Our integration into the Cadillac ATS is only the first step in the evolution of portable power in places that include your car, your coffee house and even your favorite sporting arena.”

Users still will be able to use some functions on their phone — including placing and receiving calls — when their device is connected to the Cadillac User Experience infotainment system through Bluetooth technology.

“Our lifestyles have evolved in a more mobile way than ever before and with that comes an even greater need for access to power in those places where we spend the majority of our time,”

I think this is the best thing for the future. Wireless charging? absolutely. Powermat’s are brilliant technology with an infinite amount of application. The possibilities are endless, I hope they are developing a way to wirelessly charge a Prius, imagine just being able to park in a select location and have your vehicle charging.

Suddenly these power grids of modified powermat’s are all over, charging continuously until the idea is bounced around of Infinite energy. If you are able to charge while on the go, isn’t that a good start in the right direction? You heard it here first at Test Miles. INFINITE POWER
